An affiliate of the Colony Capital group will buy the Las Vegas Hilton hotel from Park Place Entertainment Corp for approximately $280 million dollars.

According to an article in the Las Vegas SUN, Colony has not stated whether or not it would keep the Star Trek: The Experience ride at the hotel. Colony is currently in talks with Hilton Hotels Corp. to retain the name Hilton on the hotel.

Back in August, it was announced that The Experience would be opening a new ride in March 2004 (story). Entitled Borg Invasion 4D, the ride will feature a scenario in which the participants would visit a research facility and have to escape from Borg drones who want to assimilate them. In addition to live actors and special effects, the ride will feature a film that stars Kate Mulgrew as Captain Janeway, Robert Picardo as the Doctor and Alice Krige as The Borg Queen. No mention of how the sale of the Hilton would effect the future of this upcoming ride.

The Hilton's earnings for the past two years have been significantly less than its expenses, which motivated Park Place to sell the property. Colony has announced that it will keep the Las Vegas Hilton open as a casino and hotel, but also may look into building elsewhere on the 56-acre property as well.

For more information on the sale, read the story at the Las Vegas SUN.
