StarTrek.com has released the official synopsis for the episode, which reads as follows:

After unwittingly wandering into a minefield in Romulan territory, Enterprise becomes trapped when struck by an un detonated mine. When Reed takes a space walk to try to defuse the mine, he inadvertently gets pinned to the outer hull and Archer must choose between saving Reed or abiding by the Romulans' orders to depart immediately.

'Minefield was the first script for the series contributed by former X-Files scribe John Shiban. The episode was directed by James Contner, who directed this week's new episode, 'Carbon Creek'. He directed 'Dear Doctor' last season, and is also set to direct 'The Communicator' - the eighth episode of the show's second season.

The episode has been highly praised by members of the Enterprise cast and crew. Executive producer Brannon Braga recently assured fans that potential continuity problems with the appearance of the Romulans have been taken care of (story).

Earlier this month Scott Bakula (Jonathan Archer) promised that the episode will have some fantastic visual effects. "We're going to be out there on the hull and behind us you'll see the nacelles and just things that they haven't visually done before," he said. "There's a moment when a ship materialises behind Dominic when he's on the hull which I think is going to be stunning stuff."

The original report and two more photographs from the episode, can be found at this page at the official Star Trek site.
