Hello World!

Well folks, it’s been a fun six or so months…

Let’s start at the beginning, shall we? I first started writing for Trek Today way back when in October... or was it September? Good grief, it was September. Anyway, where was I? Ah yes. September 18th I first started work on this wonderful little site and have since had the immense enjoyment of watching it grow into the behemoth that it is today – not to mention the wonderful feeling of knowing a lot of stuff about Star Trek before anyone else did. It always struck me as highly ironic that I, someone who lives in the most isolated city on the planet, knew more about the goings on of Trek than most of the people living in the Hollywood area. Then again, small things amuse small minds.

At any rate, you may have noticed over the past few days a couple of newish faces around here – namely Lisa and Caillan. This is because, well, times change and I’ve been finding it increasingly difficult to fit the demands of my education and social/personal life in with the site, especially of late. So, the gist of it all is this: one of them has to go, and, unfortunately, out of these three things, Trek Today is it. I simply no longer have both the time and energy to devote to the site, in addition to everything else, something that, with a new series on the way, simply drags the quality of reporting down. I won’t be completely gone, however (and you there – you saying ‘damnit!’ - we can have a nice little chat later). I’ll still be around in a limited fashion, and I’ll be taking a more active part in the Trek BBS once again, but I’m handing in my ‘Sucker’… erm, Associate Editor’s badge and moving on. Or, at least, moving.

It’s not a decision I made lightly, and I’ll certainly miss it, but that’s the way things have worked out. I’d like to wish Lisa and Caillan good luck and hope you'lll make them feel welcome. Also, again I'd like to congratulate Christian for the great job I’m sure he’ll continue to do in keeping our curiosity about the latest ins and outs of Trek satisfied.

Trek Two Years Ago

Two years ago today, Saturday March 1st, these were some of the Trek Today headlines:

  • Trek Books To Be Published Online: Pocket Books editor John Ordover announced on his Q&A board that the coompany was going to start publishing Star Trek e-books. Interesting enough, despite initial scepticism, they proved to be some of the most popular e-books released.
  • Sci-Fi Channel To Cancel Star Trek? The Sci-Fi Channel announced that it would be screening the same program in extended blocks each weeknight from 7-11pm. Given that Star Trek was airing at 7pm on the channel, and no alternate broadcast time was availible in the announcement, speculation was that the show would be dropped from the lineup completely.
These and other past headlines can be found in the Trek Today archives.
