William Shatner (James T. Kirk) is about to swop his phaser for a violin case to star in the upcoming gangster spoof 'Dumbfellas.'

The actor will play the mob boss in the film, according to Zap2it. Shatner's manager, Larry Thompson, executive producer of Iron Chef USA, will serve as the movie's producer.

'Dumbfellas' is a cross between the Jim Carrey comedy 'Dumb and Dumber' and Martin Scorcese's 'Goodfellas.' The film is set to film in New York, although no further details are currently known.

This movie is the latest in a long line of projects for Shatner. He recently hosted the Iron Chef USA special on UPN, as well as appearing in the tell-all 'Mind Meld' film with Trek co-star Leonard Nimoy (Spock).

Fans will be able to talk to the actor about 'Mind Meld' and the launch of WilliamShatner.com during a live chat to be held at MSN today at 8:00/5:00pm PST. Further details can be found here.
