Kellie Waymire Stars In 'The Pitts' Tonight

Kellie Waymire, who portrays Ensign Cutler on Enterprise, breaks out tonight on Fox's new comedy series The Pitts, which tells the life stories of the unluckiest family in the world.

Waymire portrays Liz Pitt, who works with her husband at the local Mailboxes & More and keeps up a sunny disposition no matter what calamities befall her clan. In the show's first episode, for instance, Liz's son becomes possessed in the style of The Exorcist. In its third episode, Liz becomes a werewolf. Other disasters befalling the family include lightning strikes, sinkholes and abductions by aliens.

The Pitts also features Dylan Baker, David Henrie and Lizzy Caplan as the other members of the brood. Waymire, who previously had a recurring role on Six Feet Under and who has appeared on C.S.I. and The X-Files, gives a performance that The Boston Globe describes as "perky" in a review that calls the series "as wacko and bold as most of the current family comedies are bland".

Advance critical reaction has been mixed. The Kansas City Star describes the show as "The Simpsons meet The Munsters" and says it gets "weirder and funnier as it goes along", but the Houston Chronicle claims that the four actors playing the leads are "the really unlucky ones".

Waymire's Cutler made her Enterprise debut in "Strange New World" and later appeared to be emerging as a possible love interest for Dr. Phlox in "Dear Doctor" and "Two Days and Two Nights". However, that storyline did not recur and the actress has not appeared on the show this season.

The Pitts premieres Sunday at 9:30 Eastern Time in Fox's lineup opposite another new series, Regular Joe on ABC. You can find out more at the official website.
