Hello World!

It's hard to believe that only a week has passed since my computer crashed and ate up my exam alternative essay for Greek History. With that, and two other exams to revise for last week, I feel like a month has passed, not a week. Still, I survived, and I can now get down to more important matters, like a certain book about a boy wizard with a funny-shaped scar.

On Saturday, the day before the Great Computer Crash of June '03, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix was released. It seems like pre-ordering a copy wasn't the thing to do, because while many people were lining up at bookshops to pick-up their $45 copy which had been reserved months in advance, my brother walked straight into Target and grabbed one for $25.

He's had it to himself for one week. So last last night, free from the shackles of my academic responsibilities, I started to read it. This was obviously met with disapproval since I was woken up this morning with the words, "Do you have it?" I placed a bookmark at the page I'd reached, and relinquished the book.

Now, on Sunday night, there are actually three bookmarks: mine, my brother's, and my sister's. (Actually, my sister turned down the corner of the page, but that was met with such abject horror that it was quickly replaced and the crease ironed out, lest it looked like the book had been touched by human hands).

Like the other four, Order of the Phoenix is proving to be a completely addictive read, so I'll be sneaking into my brother's bedroom tonight and stealing it from under his nose. No doubt he'll be in bright and early tomorrow to reclaim it.

Trek Two Years Ago

These were some of the main news items in late June, 2001:

  • Zefram Cochrane To Appear In 'Enterprise' Pilot
It was reported that James Cromwell would be reprising his Star Trek: First Contact role of Zefram Cochrane in "Broken Bow". The online rumours correctly predicted that Cromwell would appear in a video message to give a speech about exploration.

  • New Details Of Enterprise Ship Design
The latest rumours about the look of the Enterprise said it would be "like Kirk's Enterprise and Picard's Enterprise - only turned upside down". Overall, the spaceship's appearance would be like the Akira class, which appeared in Star Trek: First Contact.

  • Neelix Departure Planned Early, Says Biller
Kenneth Biller, executive producer during Voyager's final season, said he had never anticipated Neelix would be around for the show's last episode.

I had a long talk with Ethan Phillips about it. In fact I talked to him early in the season. He was very excited about it. Of course, he didn’t want to have to leave the show really early. I told him that it was a way to really give Neelix a big send off, as opposed to him just being one more character in the big finale where he wasn't going to get a lot of focus.
