Best known for directing and producing The X-Files, Kim Manners died Sunday in Los Angeles.

As reported by E! Online, Manners died at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles at the age of 58 from lung cancer.

Manners came from a showbiz family and broke into television in the 1970s as a production manager and director on Charlie's Angels. He directed When the Bough Breaks, a Star Trek: Next Generation episode in which the children of the Enterprise-D were kidnapped by a dying race that had become infertile courtesy of radiation poisoning.

In addition to Star Trek: The Next Generation, Manners worked on shows such as 21 Jump Street, Simon & Simon, Hardcastle and McCormick and Baywatch before working on The X-Files, where he directed fifty-two episodes. Manners was nominated for four Emmys for his work on The X-Files.

In 2005, Manners helped to launch Supernatural, where he became a director and co-executive producer. Manners directed some of its most memorable episodes. "Everyone at 'Supernatural' is walking around in a daze, shocked and absolutely devastated," said Executive Producer Eric Kripke. "Kim was a brilliant director, more than that, he was a mentor and friend."
