Colbert Faces Khitomer Over Klingon Joke

Did Stephen Colbert of Comedy Central's Colbert Report steal a joke about Klingons?

The Associated Press reported that Cenk Uygur of Air America's The Young Turks claimed that Colbert had swiped his joke demonstrating that Republican presidential candidates speaking about the value of honour in war sounded like Star Trek's best-known aliens.

Uygur posted video segments to YouTube comparing his version of the joke with Colbert's, allegedly delivered four days later. CBS News added that Uygur had threatened a $65 million lawsuit, citing the suit filed over a lost pair of pants by a Washington dry cleaner.

"Look, he's messing with my livelihood," said Uygur. "That's how I put food on my kids' table. If I had kids." Comedy Central declined to comment, but CBS noted that the threatened lawsuit is likely a publicity stunt.

In any event, an Oregon Democrat may have the final word over ownership of the joke. Earlier this year, Congressman David Wu warned of Klingons in the Bush White House (story).
