'Friendship One' Scores A Ratings Rise

The overnight ratings for Voyager's 'Friendship One' have been released. The results show a welcome increase for UPN's flagship show, which only has three more episodes to run before its series finale.

'Friendship One' grabbed a rating of 4.8 and a share of 7, which easily beat off competition from the WB's 'Felicity' with 3.4/ 5. This is up from last week's 'Author Author' which only managed 4.3/ 6 in the same time slot. This was enough for Voyager to be listed as one of Mediaweek's "Yesterday's Winners" in its daily ratings report.

The national ratings are not yet available, but 'Friendship One' is likely to score a few points ahead of last week's 'Author, Author' which came in at 2.9/4. Overnight ratings are the calculated from the top 47 television markets metered by Nielsen. As Voyager is more popular in urban markets, national ratings for the show typically tend to be lower than the overnight ratings.

Voyager lead in show 'Special Unit 2' was beaten by 'Dawson's Creek,' with a rating of 2.8. 'Special Unit 2' is a sci-fi spoof show starring Michael Landes and Kate Benson as detectives who work to protect Chicago citezans from a mysetious paranormal species. The show has performed consistently well in ratings, no doubt helped by its position in the schedules next to Voyager, and it is almost guaranteed to be renewed for a second season.

In the UK Voyager continues its dominance as Sky One's highest rated show. Last week's 'Flesh and Blood Part I' attracted 0.81 million viewers, which was the highest figure for any show airing on cable and satellite television.

A day earlier on UPN, the new Aaron Spelling drama 'All Souls' performed badly with a 1.6 rating. The show premiered on April 16th to 2.1 million viewers. Headlined by Grayson McCouch, better known for his role in 'Legacy,' the series focused on a 300 year old haunted hospital in modern day Boston. UPN ordered six shows, but has put the show on "broadcast hiatus" after airing only two episodes.
