Star Trek fans will get to enjoy Star Trek XI on the large IMAX screen next spring.

As reported by FirstShowing.net, when Star Trek XI debuts on May 8th of next year, it will be seen at both regular and IMAX theaters.

Star Trek XI wasn't shot with IMAX cameras, but will be converted to 70mm for projection on the IMAX screen. It is the first Star Trek film to appear in an IMAX version.

Star Trek XI opens a busy summer for IMAX movies. After the success of The Dark Knight last summer, more films are being shown at IMAX theaters. This summer, after Star Trek XI, films such as Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince will be shown at IMAX theaters. The Transformers film will be shot with IMAX cameras. The Harry Potter film will have twenty minutes of the film shown in IMAX 3-D. It is not known at the present time if Star Trek XI will be anything other than an IMAX conversion.
