Trek Stars Speak at SFX

Star Trek stars at SFX, the science fiction expo in Toronto last month, spoke about how appreciated they feel at conventions.

"It's a time to actually kind of check into that reality, into how big the following really is and how dedicated they are," explained Linda Park (Sato) to Hypaspace (via VRRM). "I get to meet all the fans, which is amazing. To put faces and kind of an energy to what I may read on the website or fan mail that I get."

Tim Russ (Tuvok) agreed. "It all comes back very quickly once you sit down and start meeting and greeting," he said. Russ added that had not done a show for about a year.

Also at SFX was Tony Todd, who in addition to playing multiple roles on The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine and Voyager appeared on both Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Andromeda with Kevin Sorbo. "Here's a guy who did both Hercules and Andromeda, so I've got to come by and say hi to him," Sorbo told Hypaspace, describing the convention as "absolutely nuts" and one of the biggest he'd been to.

The reporter asked Todd who he thought would win in a fight between Sorbo and the actor most famous for Candyman, though he also played Worf's brother Kurn and Jake Sisko as an adult. "I'm not going to get into that," demurred Todd, who then added, "Now, who do you think would win?" As for the convention, he said, "This is a wonderful thing. It's an appreciation knowing that you do films and that people appreciate what you do. And to see the people's reactions, that's a beautiful thing. Life is good."

Video clips of this convention that aired on Hypaspace can be found at VRRM, which also has a clip of William Shatner (Kirk)'s appearance on The Tonight Show where he autographed the Harley-Davidson motorcycle Jay Leno is auctioning on eBay to help victims of Hurricane Katrina.
