'Star Trek' Home Theater? Make It So!

The anonymous owner of a home opted for a Star Trek: The Next Generation theme when it came to setting up his home theater.

Some people watch TNG from the comfort of a couch in their traditional living rooms or family rooms. Those with more means might indulge in a personal home theater. One sci-fi fan, however, has taken his movie experience to a new level, with a theater designed to resemble the Enterprise 1701A, as reported by Electronic House.

Completed in 2006, the entertainment center consists of three areas, measuring a total of seventy by twenty-two feet. There is a theater, a ready room and a bar.

"We initially considered the original Starship Enterprise, NCC-1701," says Jeff Hoover, president of Audio Advisors. "With a more updated look, Enterprise NCC-1701A was selected as it depicted a grander version of the ship."

The owner has amassed a collection of original props, models and drawings from Star Trek and other science fiction shows. A full-sized replica of Robby the Robot from Forbidden Planet stands sentinel between the bar and ready room.

The theater features comfortable seats, with a D-Box integrated motion system in each seat. Hoover claims that the theater includes "one of the largest Kaleidescape hard-drive based storage systems that I've ever heard of in a residential installation."

Other fans have had Star Trek themed houses or apartments. Several years ago, Tony Alleyne of Leicestershire had his apartment renovated to resemble the interior of the Enterprise-D. The apartment was eventually sold on Ebay for five times its market value.
