William Shatner approves of his successor as Kirk, Tom Cruise denies that he ever intended to play Christopher Pike, and George Takei is excited about the idea of his Heroes co-star playing Spock.

Speaking on ShatnerVision, the original Captain Kirk actor said that Chris Pine "looks good, doesn't he?" He was pleased that Pine has a theatrical background and joked, "he's got a pretty girl at his side, that's a good sign, right there."

Empire Online caught up with Cruise at the Times BFI London Film Festival to find out whether he would indeed play a cameo as Pike in Star Trek, which will be directed by Mission: Impossible's J.J. Abrams. "No, I'm not in that...it's just rumour," Cruise told the magazine.

And news continues to come in from the 2007 Scream Awards (story). TMZ caught a photo of Shatner and Leonard Nimoy together at the Los Angeles ceremony.

Zachary Quinto described his upcoming role of Spock as "an incredible honour" and said that he felt very humbled to be playing the role with the support of Nimoy.

This Is North Scotland reported that Takei said he was looking forward to seeing the Quinto in the film. "The casting is already very promising. Zachary will make a fantastic Spock. [There's an] amazing, uncanny physical resemblance there," he said.
