The first poster hyping Star Trek XI has been released, distributed at San Diego Comic-Con and posted on the official Star Trek web site.

StarTrek.com provided the image, which features an original series-shaped insignia against a background in traditional Star Trek command gold and science blue. The image would seem to suggest a setting near the era of the first Star Trek series.

"With this familiar imagery, the direction of the next movie is now officially open to speculation," noted StarTrek.com, which provides a link here for readers to try to win a mini-poster featuring the image.

Icons and desktops are also available for those unable to obtain a physical print from the contest or Paramount's booth at San Diego Comic-Con, #3914.

Star Trek XI is being produced by J.J. Abrams and Damon Lindelof for the projected 2008 release date noted on the poster.
