Peter David, the popular Star Trek novelist who created the New Frontier series and wrote several scripts for Babylon 5, has said on his web site that he will write a screenplay for a theatrical film of Gene Roddenberry's Starpoint Academy.

At PeterDavid.net, the writer explained that Starpoint Academy was planned to be a full-length CGI-animated film from IDT Entertainment, possibly to be followed by graphic novels and other related tie-ins.

David described the project as "an original Gene Roddenberry concept in conjunction with Majel Roddenberry", who served as executive producer on Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda and numerous other Roddenberry projects. IDT executive Clifford Meth will serve as story editor for Starpoint Academy.

The co-creator of Cable Ace Award-nominated science fiction series Space Cases, David wrote numerous Star Trek comics and several popular novels about Q, William Riker and Deanna Troi. Many of his books, which include Sir Apropos of Nothing, Howling Mad, and the Psi-Man series as well as the Trek titles, have been placed on The New York Times bestseller list.

David promised to keep readers updated at his web site.
