Hello World!

As my brother and I were constructing his Hogwarts Castle LEGO set the other day, we started discussing how much better it was than many of the sets in recent years.

I haven't been a big fan of many of their latest 'themes' - they just can't compare to the classics like early 90s castle and pirates sets. I always loved the pirates theme - I never owned any of the big sets, but my next door neighbour had Governor Broadside's Fort, which made me eternally jealous.

Truth be told, I didn't always build what I was supposed to - I must have been the only 12 year old who spent their time constructing monasteries.

Many of the older sets are available on eBay, but after checking out the horrendous prices ($300 USD for a ship - eeek!), I'll confine my nostalgia to looking at pictures online.

Trek Two Years Ago

This was the major news item on December 21, 1999:

  • Harve Bennett On 'Academy'
The official site posted an interview with producer Harve Bennett in which he talked about his proposed idea for the sixth Star Trek film - set at Starfleet Academy. "I had a romance between Kirk and a cadet named Cassie, who dies bravely in his arms," he said, "which explains how he never came to love that way again."
