Shatner: I Haven't Been Offered 'Star Trek' Role

William Shatner has released two video clips on his personal video channel in which he states that to the best of his knowledge, he will not appear in the eleventh Star Trek film despite internet rumours to the contrary.

"I don't have anything to do with Star Trek," Shatner told an interviewer at ShatnerVision. Asked whether it was true that he would have a cameo role, Shatner added, "That comes as news to me...who said that?"

When told that the story had surfaced at Hollywood.com, possibly picking up on suggestions by Ain't It Cool News (story), Shatner said, "I don't know where they are getting their information from." He reiterated that he had not been offered a role or even had it suggested that he might be given one. "And a cameo? I can't imagine why I would do a cameo."

In a follow-up video also at ShatnerVision, the actor explained the reasons he thinks from a business standpoint that he should have been included in the film.

"When you have an actor...he's popular in television right now...he's worth a lot in terms of publicity." He added that he thinks it is "not a reasonable business decision" to have excluded him in terms of the potential for loss of fan interest.
