Kate Mulgrew (Janeway) will play a recurring role on NBC's highly-regarded mid-season show The Black Donnellys this fall, according to her official web site.

Totally Kate passed on the news that Mulgrew would appear on the series, created by Academy Award winners Paul Haggis and Bobby Moresco. The Black Donnellys focuses on four Irish brothers with ties to organized crime.

The Black Donnellys is currently filming in New York City, which is also where the drama is set. "The Donnelly brothers basically remain 'good kids' - who will do anything to protect each other against all odds," notes NBC's web site.

The Futon Critic has full details on the show, whose cast includes Jonathan Tucker, Billy Lush, Thomas Guiry and Michael Stahl-David. Haggis, who helmed the Academy Award winning film Crash, directed the series pilot.

The Black Donnellys will air on Thursday nights starting in January 2007. "We feel we have a head start into Fall with Paul Haggis' 'The Black Donnellys' on our side and already locked into place," said NBC's Kevin Reilly back in January in a press release at The Futon Critic. "This is a high-intensity show that bears its own creative stamp and points to the dramatic direction that NBC is headed."
