"They're smart, they're pasty faced, and they know their way around a RAM cache," said Time magazine. Yes, it can only be time for the Second Annual 'Sexiest Geek Alive' contest.

The contest will be hosted by Deep Space Nine's Chase Masterson (Leeta) who spearheads the effort to prove that being a geek is cool. The finals of the event are being held today in San Jose, California.

Selected from an online quiz testing their knowledge of technology and geek culture including Star Trek, the finalists will compete to win a range of fabulous geeky prizes. These include a state of the art Gateway computer system, alien logo beanie hats and a 'Joy of Linux' signed book.

"To enter the Sexiest Geek Alive contest means that you are helping to shape this brave new world," proclaims the contest web site. "A world where brains has overcome beauty. A world that is not run by force, but by knowledge. To enter means that you are standing up and shouting: Look at me world! I am a Geek! I am sexy! I AM PROUD!"

You can keep updated with the latest happenings in the contest via the Sexiest Geek Alive site.
