Karl Urban Shows Off Original Series Knowledge

Karl Urban (Leonard 'Bones' McCoy) recently demonstrated he's well-versed in original Star Trek lore.

When asked by SFX Magazine for his favorite Trek episodes, Urban answered, "The Corbomite Maneuver. It has a great McGuffin. And Amok Time. It's about the relationship between Kirk, Spock and McCoy, you get to see some of the Vulcan culture and I like how Bones saves the day."

In the new Trek film, Urban will be taking on the role originated by DeForest Kelley. He told SFX what things he liked about McCoy's character: "His sense of irascibility with real passion for life and doing the right thing. Spock’s logic and McCoy’s moral standing gave Kirk the benefit of having three brains instead of just one."

The full interview with Urban can be found in the new issue of SFX Magazine, available now in the United Kingdom. Alternatively, a few more excerpts can be found at the Sci-Fi Pulse.

Meanwhile, Paramount has updated its official release date list for the film, indicating the film will be released almost everwhere around the world somewhere between the 6th and the 8th of May, 2009. For the full list, please follow this link.
