With the release date for the first season set of Star Trek: The Original Series on HD-DVD fast approaching, reports now suggest that the second season may follow in high-definition format in the spring.

TV Shows on DVD has reported that "word is beginning to reach some of our friends in the retail world" of a season two release date in March or April, with no word yet about extras or whether the cost will be the same as the first season.

The original series episodes were originally remastered for syndicated television, but on November 20th they will arrive for the first time on DVD, along with never-before-seen behind-the-scenes extras. TV Shows on DVD has some comparison shots of the special effects from the original series and the remastered version.

Among classic second season episodes are "Amok Time", "The Trouble With Tribbles" and "Journey to Babel". Many episodes were written by classic science fiction writers.

The first season set of Star Trek: The Original Series on HD-DVD is available for pre-order now at Amazon.com.
