Shatner Sells Kidney Stone for $25,000

William Shatner (Kirk) has sold the kidney stone he passed last year, necessitating a trip to the hospital from the set of Boston Legal, to raise $25,000 for charity.

CNN reported that online casino GoldenPalace.com had purchased the stone after reaching an agreement Monday with the actor, who plays to donate the money to Habitat for Humanity, which builds housing for low-income families.

"This takes organ donors to a new height, to a new low, maybe. How much is a piece of me worth?" pondered Shatner, who turned down an initial order of $25,000, pointing out that his Star Trek uniforms have sold for more. He came up with the idea after Boston Legal raised $20,000 for Habitat for Humanity.

GoldenPalace.com has a collection of strange objects including a partially eaten cheese sandwich with an image of the Virgin Mary on it. "This is a bold new addition to our fleet," explained GoldenPalace.com Chief Executive Officer Richard Rowe.

More details, including a video clip of Shatner saying that the kidney stone comes with a stent and a little blood, are here.
