Lindelof Calls Character Key To Star Trek

"We are trying to write a movie that Trekkers and my mother in New Jersey will all understand and love," said Damon Lindelof, who will co-produce Star Trek XI with J.J. Abrams.

"We’re not giving out any information about Trek at all," Lindelof told iF Magazine at a television event where he discussed the new season of Lost.

All that he was willing to say was that the previously announced team of Alex Kurtzman and Robert Orci would be writing the script. "Paramount has announced a release date of 2008. That’s all that’s official," he added. Lindelof also said that Abrams had not yet decided whether he would direct the film.

"The fundamental J.J. Abrams approach to storytelling is one I highly subscribe to which is character, character, character and we're applying that same model on to Trek," explained Lindelof. "I think fundamentally to set a movie in space and the future where crazy things are happening and they’re all aliens is not as engaging as 'how are the people involved?'"
