Captain Kirk is set to lead out a brave bunch of redshirts once again - but this time he'll swop his phaser for a paintball rifle.

William Shatner (James T. Kirk) will head up the 'Spplat Attack!' paintball game on August 31st. The event will take place at Challenge Park Xtreme in Joliet, Illinois, with proceeds from the event going to the Hollywood Charity Horse Show.

"It's been a while since I've led the Federation in an adventure, but [...] I am gathering up the troops once again," wrote Shatner at his web site. "Whether you’re a Federation member, a Klingon, or a Borg, you’ll want to join me for what promises to be one of the most entertaining, adventurous, and downright cool events you'll ever do."

Shatner will lead the Red Shirt Brigade, who must fight to save a newly discovered planet from the Klingons or the Borg. Radio personality Mancow will head up the Klingons, while renowned paintballer Tom Kaye controls the Borg team.

After the event, there will be a special Star Trek Convention at the The Empress Casino Hotel, attended by the personalities involved in the event. Details of the convention are available by following this link.

"Paintball has gained in popularity more rapidly than many other sports. I myself am looking forward to sharpening my skills," wrote Shatner. The event is billed as the biggest of its kind ever, with 3000 people expected to take part.
