Auberjonois Shapeshifts Into Series Regular

Two Star Trek stars are now regulars on Boston Legal, where Rene Auberjonois (Odo) has been elevated to series regular from his recurring character status on William Shatner (Kirk)'s quirky drama.
Auberjonois' new status was reported by The Hollywood Reporter (via Yahoo!), which mentioned his previous role on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine in a brief note on the Tony Award-winning actor. In addition to playing the shapeshifter on the third Star Trek series, Auberjonois starred on Benson as Clayton Endicott III and made numerous guest appearances, including a role on Boston Legal producer David E. Kelley's previous series, The Practice, which also launched Shatner's role on the new drama.
Auberjonois has already appeared in most of the episodes of Boston Legal as Paul Lewiston, a senior partner in the law firm headed by Shatner's chararcter, Denny Crane. Because Crane can be erratic, Lewiston must serve as a balance to him, trying to keep the firm's management more focused.
Boston Legal, a direct spinoff of The Practice, has earned higher ratings to date than its predecessor did last season. The series also stars James Spader, who, like Shatner, won an Emmy for the same role on The Practice. The series airs Sunday at 10 p.m. after the very successful Desperate Housewives.
