Shatner: Bakula A Very Powerful Actor

While some may have their doubts about the new Star Trek series, the first man to helm a Federation starship on-screen has no doubts about its captain.

"Scott Bakula will be wonderful," William Shatner (James T. Kirk) told TV Guide, speaking at the premiere of his new film 'Osmosis Jones.' "He's a very powerful actor."

The Original Series star offered the new boy around the captain's table some advice about the qualities needed to succeed on the bridge. "Stamina, for one," he said. "That's the main one. It's a long, arduous shoot."

Shatner revealed that he is just as in the dark about other aspects of the series as everyone else. "I don't know anything about it. I know less than you know."

When asked whether he feels that the 35 year-old franchise might finally be ready for retirement, he laughed. "We'll know, won't we?" he said. "We'll find out!"
