Roger Nygard, director of Trekkies 2, compared audiences on different continents and noted that he'd like to make a trilogy about Star Trek fans.

Speaking to TrekNews.de, Nygard called Germans "the hippest Star Trek fans", stating that "they know how to party" and calling the FedCon convention "the biggest, most impressive stop on our tour."

"No matter which country we visited, we came to realize that there would always be a group of people waiting for us at the airport who we could trust with our lives," said producer Mike Leahy.

"It was a life-changing experience to travel to 8 countries, meet so many people, and listen to their unique perspectives," added Nygard, who plans to return to many of the countries to screen the documentary.

Italy, he said, had the best costumes and the best food "by far", while Australian fans had "a quirky sense of humor about life."

In Serbia, the crew attended the first convention ever held in the Balkans.

"The lesson was that you could take all these people and put them in a room together and they would all belong, because they all share similar beliefs," said Nygard.
