Abrams Confirms Jennifer Morrison Casting

Star Trek director J.J. Abrams today confirmed that House actress Jennifer Morrison will have a role in the new film.

"She is indeed in the movie," Abrams told Michael Ausiello at TV Guide. "[And] she is most excellent."

Abrams then went on to deny supposed internet chatter that Morrison will be playing Yeoman Janice Rand, the role originated by Grace Lee Whitney. The director apparently didn't comment on what most of the internet chatter did actually deal with: the possibility that Morrison might be playing Dr. Carol Marcus, the mother of Kirk's son (story).

Finally, Abrams confirmed that the current writers' strike is currently not affecting production on the new film. "Our script is locked," he said. The strike could only cause problems for the film if rewrites are needed during or after filming, but that would also require the strike to go on for at least several more months.
