Greenwood On Captain Pike

Captain Christopher Pike will be familiar to fans of the original, according to Bruce Greenwood, slated to play Pike in Star Trek XI.

Speaking with both MTV and IESB recently, Greenwood discussed his upcoming role while being careful not to say too much. When asked if time travel would be involved, he said, "I can't tell you," and then smiled. He added,"Although I know a great deal. You'll have to wait a year to know what I know."

He went on to talk about his costume fitting. When asked about Captain Pike's uniform, he said, "I think there will be a certain nod to the 60s.”

Greenwood described attempts to keep the script under wraps. "When I read the script I had to go to J.J. Abrams’ office and read it while I was being watched and leave it,” he said. Jokingly he added, “I’m not sure if any of us are going to be allowed on set."

At fifty-one, Greenwood is eleven years older than Jeffrey Hunter was when Hunter played the role. That does not seem to faze Greenwood. When informed that the movie was a prequel, his response was "Yes. So what?"

Greenwood confirmed that Pike would not end up in a box with lights. "That’s been done," he said.

For the original interviews, head over to IESB and MTV.
