Borg Will Invade Paramount Parks Next Week

Paramount Parks is gearing up for the assimilation of fans at two major attractions next week, including Star Trek: Borg Invasion 4-D in Las Vegas and the Borg Assimilator roller coaster in Charlotte, North Carolina.

USA Today reported on the two planned openings, joking, "Calling all Trekkies: Earth has been invaded by the Borg."

"We're using film sets, live actors and special effects to put people into an episode of Star Trek, where they come face-to-face with the Borg and risk being assimilated," said director Ty Granaroli of Borg Invasion 4-D, which opens Thursday at the Las Vegas Hilton.

The ride at Star Trek: The Experience features movie footage with Kate Mulgrew (Captain Janeway), Robert Picardo (The Doctor) and Alice Krige (The Borg Queen).

Meanwhile, on the opposite side of the U.S., Paramount's Carowinds amusement park in Charlotte will begin running the Borg Assimilator roller coaster on March 20th.

This 50 mph attraction suspends passengers face-down from the track for a ride with an initial drop of 115 feet, which then performs eight inversions.

Park admission for adults is $42.99; the Borg Assimilator has height requirements and a list of health restrictions.

Screamscape, a guide to amusement parks and theme rides, has photos of the ride under construction.

This article explains that the roller coaster was originally the Vekoma Flyer, adopted from another amusement park. More photos are available at Carowinds Connection.

Paramount Parks, which released press releases on both Borg Invasion 4-D and the Borg Assimilator, has links to both Star Trek: The Experience and Paramount's Carowinds resort.
