  • The The James Doohan Farewell Star Trek Convention & Tribute has had a change of date and venue to coincide with the expected unveiling of James Doohan (Scotty)'s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and with Paramount's release of the original Star Trek on DVD. The event will take place from August 28-30th at the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel.

  • CNN reports that LeVar Burton (Geordi LaForge), who is co-chair of the Directors' Guild's social responsibility task force, was scheduled to testify today in Washington on the subject of smoking in movies, which some lobbyists believe should be grounds for an automatic R rating on a film.   • Canada.com reports that Christopher Plummer (General Chang) will film a movie about scandals in the priesthood for Showtime, Our Fathers, beginning in June, and The New World, a feature film in which Plummer plays an English commander bringing settlers to America, in July.

  • Author Dave Stern will chat with fans on May 25th at 6 p.m. EDT on StarTrek.com.

  • The Chicago Tribune reports that Jeri Ryan (Seven of Nine) has joined her former husband, U.S. Senate candidate Jack Ryan, in requesting that their divorce records remain sealed.

  • StarTrek.com has a new three-part documentary on the Borg.

  • An article on quantum teleportation cites Star Trek as inspiration.
