Takei Talks 'Excelsior' Casting

Jeff Berkwits at GalaxyOnline has put up an interview with George Takei (Hikaru Sulu), talking about the 'Excelsior' fan campaign. Besides talking about how many people dislike DS9 and Voyager, and about the chances of success of the campaign, he also pays some attention to who would actually be in the series:

GO: You mentioned Nichelle [Nichols, Uhura] and Walter [Koenig, Chekov] earlier in terms of the meritocracy and the pluralism of Star Trek. If the Excelsior project were to ever take off, could the fans also expect to see them return, perhaps in different roles?

GT: I'd like to see Walter as a part of that project and I think Nichelle would make a wonderful presence as well. I'd like to see the two of them at least be a part of it. Both Bill and Leonard [Nimoy] have indicated that they don't want the grind of a weekly series project. But there are always guest appearances, and there's no reason why Ambassador Spock or a retired Captain Kirk can't make an appearance. Or maybe a fantasy sequence where the spirit of Kirk appears.

GO: Like a Star Trek Obi-Wan?

GT: In Star Trek, there are always possibilities.

More thoughts from Takei on the Excelsior Campaign can be found in the full interview. Thanks go out to Cinescape and Elaine Butler for this!
