Shatner Plays Kirk For DirecTV

William Shatner is playing Captain Kirk again...in a DirecTV commercial.

Numerous fans wrote in to remark upon the advertisement, which uses footage from Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country also featuring Leonard Nimoy (Spock) and Walter Koenig (Chekov). In the commercial, Shatner says he wishes that Chekov would relax and enjoy the clarity of the DirecTV HD the ship had just hooked up.

TrekMovie.com has a downloadable WMV file of the advertisement, which can also be seen on YouTube.

Fans at the TrekBBS report that the footage is shown in high-definition when the spot airs during a HD program. There is also some debate about whether the original graphics have been digitally enhanced or in some cases reshot.

As Kirk, Shatner insists that it would be illogical to settle for cable, then raises an eyebrow at Spock and asks, "What? I can't use that line?"
