Anthony Montgomery (Travis Mayweather) today said Enterprise's third season has a different, "edgier" vibe from previous years.

"I can tell you that it is much grittier," Montgomery said in an interview with Steve Krutzler at TrekWeb.

With production on the season premiere, "The Xindi", scheduled to be completed this week, Montgomery has already encountered Enterprise's military reinforcements. The actor said the new faces will provide some internal conflict in the upcoming season, as the NX-01 heads into Xindi space.

"We've already started going out with them in this first episode and they get in and mix it up a little bit with an alien faction and you start to see a little bit of tension between them and our security on the show. It's going to be interesting. I'm curious myself to see exactly where it goes, but I know it's a lot edgier. A lot edgier."

While Travis hasn't been front and centre in many Enterprise adventures, Montgomery has his own ideas about how to develop the helmsman regardless of how much screentime the character receives. "I know personally I want to see more confidence," he said. "As the actor I'm going to bring that to the screen and bring that to Travis. It was fine being a little timid before in different situations but he needs to have more behind him, more of a foundation behind him."

The full interview, in which Mongtomery also talked about performing in Dutchman and his stand-up comedy, can be found here at TrekWeb.
