Cromwell To Take On 'Spider-Man 3'

James Cromwell (Zephram Cochrane) has joined the cast of Spider-Man 3 as Captain Stacy, who in the Marvel comics suspected a connection between the web-slinging superhero and his alter ego Peter Parker.

Zap2It reported that Cromwell was cast shortly after Bryce Dallas Howard who will play the role of his daughter Gwen Stacy. In the comics, Peter and Gwen dated, but since Kirsten Dunst is expected to return in the role of Mary Jane - the current love interest of Tobey Maguire's Peter - it is unclear how her arc will develop.

As for Captain Stacy, he was killed by Dr. Octopus in the comics. But since that character appears to be conclusively gone at the end of the second Spider-Man film, a very different fate may be in store for him.

Cromwell, who received an Academy Award nomination for Babe, has appeared in such genre films as I, Robot, Salem's Lot and The Green Mile. A more complete list of his credits is available at the IMDb.
