Hello World!

For your pleasure (or displeasure, depending on whether you find this stuff funny or not), I present extracts from the 'Latin Tourist Phrase Book':

Carpe diem - fish frying tonight
Curriculum - Indian restaurant
Quis custodiet custodes ipsos? - do you keep the Guardian?
Rara avis - no car hire available
Noli me tangere - I do not wish to dance with you
Timeo Danaos et Dona Ferentes - that nice couple we met in Portugal
Dum spiro - stupid Greek person
Tertium quid - 33p

If you're wondering, these aren't the product of my warped sense of humour, we were given them in Latin on Thursday, presumably as a reward for having made it through the semester. Alas, I don't think these translations will be admissable in the exam.

Trek Two Years Ago

These were some of the major news items on June 8, 2000:

  • Brannon Braga Interviewed
Voyager producer Brannon Braga said both Troi and Barclay would reappear in the show's seventh season. "We do plan on continuing to visit that tenuous link with Earth as the series progresses. [...] There's no doubt that that will play a part in how the crew gets home."

  • Rick Berman Talks Series V
Trek head honcho Rick Berman spoke to Star Trek: The Magazine about what viewers could expect from Series V.

"Well, it certainly is not going to be darker. [...] I think 'funnier' is not something that would be valid to say. Sexier, perhaps, and more contemporary in terms of style of television production today, as opposed to the style of the mid 80's and 90's when we developed the previous three shows. I would say that would be valid. And I think you can rest assured that it will be set on a starship!"
