Sulu Novel Campaign Unsuccessful

Over at Simon & Schuster's Star Trek Books Board, John Ordover just posted the following message:

Got six Sulu letters today, but only two count, since the others were mailed past the May 1st deadline.

That puts us at 820. I think we're coming to the end, folks.

[...] There's a lot to be proud of and be surprised by. The count was much higher than I thought it would be, and I don't think -anyone- predicted that we'd get more letters than the Excelsior campaign got rally participants.:)

But the bottom line is that we simply didn't get enough response to this challenge to justify publishing a Captain Sulu novel, even assuming the most favorable possible multipliers.

Just to be clear, let me say once again that this doesn't mean we'll never see Captain Sulu show up as part of an ensemble-cast story. We will. But a stand-alone Captain Sulu novel is just not in the cards right now.

My thanks to everyone who sent in a letter.

John

Psi Phi still has its novel progress report page, showing exactly how many letters were received over the course of the campaign.
