Hello World!

Here in the Netherlands, we have one of the most archaic forms of government of any western nation on Earth. Because of tradition, we actually have a queen who doesn't just have a symbolic function, but is in fact a member of the government - after elections it is she who decides who will be forming the government, and she also chairs one of the most important advising bodies the country has. Of course this is a highly undemocratic state of affairs, and I've been hoping for this to be changed for ages.

Having read this, I'm sure you can imagine I was rather happy when yesterday evening, Thom de Graaf, the leader of D66 (the political party I myself also support), proposed to modernise the monarchy and make it a purely symbolic function. Unfortunately, it appears most other political parties don't agree with D66, and if things continue the way they seem to be going now, most everyone else soon won't either. This evening, I was watching the 8 O'Clock news on public television, and surprisingly it seemed more like a commercial for the Royal House than a serious news show - half of the report about De Graaf's plan consisted of highlights of the Royal Family over the past few years, set to some lovely classical music. It really is truly incredible how everyone seems to get completely hysterical when someone just proposes a discussion about the role of the monarchy, and immediately shoots down any possible plan for change. It seems propoganda isn't dead after all.

Anyway, after this rant, let me thank you for all the suggestions that have been coming in regarding the new design. Most of the bugs you've pointed out have been fixed now, and the rest should be done tomorrow. Also, you may have already noticed this, but the new design also features a link called 'TT Classic'. Clicking this will bring you to a version of the site which is roughly similar to the old version, meaning all the news for a single day is grouped together. This will still be only be updated once per day, so if you want the most current news the new design is still the only choice, but if for some reason you prefer the old news format it will now be possible to have that.
