Hello World!

Don't you hate it when you walk into the bookshop or library and instead of the book you want, you're confronted with the sequel, or another book in the series, or even worse, every book in a series, except the first one?

On Friday during my lunch break I took a brisk walk down Queen Street to QBD (an Australian bookshop) to see what Trek books they had in stock. In particular, I was on the look out for Christie Golden's 'Dark Matters' trilogy, the 'Endgame' novelization, or the DS9 relaunch books.

Of course, when I got there, what did I find? No 'Endgame,' book three of 'Dark Matters' and book two of the DS9 relaunch. Never mind, I thought, as I headed to Bookworld around the corner.

Here the situation was even worse. Their Trek selection consisted of two copies of Strange New Worlds IV, and book two of the DS9 relaunch. Looks like I'll have to bite the bullet and go through Amazon, however, I'll have to spend many months willing the exchange rate to improve.

Trek Two Years Ago

These were some of the major news headlines on July 7th, 1999:

  • Kate Mulgrew Interview At Mania
Mania Magazine's Michelle Erica Green interviewed Kate Mulgrew (Captain Janeway) about the actress's hopes for Voyager's sixth season. "My great wishes for this season [...] I really want a featured episode with Roxann [Dawson] and one with Bob [Picardo], where they are integral to what's happening not only on the ship, but with me," Mulgrew said. "I have a very close personal relationship with both of them, those two, and I feel that Roxann has suffered a bit in the past year."

  • Trek Book News
Pocket Books editor John Ordover held a new question and answer session at his website. Asked whether there would be more Voyager books featuring the Doctor, he said that "the Doctor is a problem, not just because of the POV problem you point out, but because he's essentially invulnerable. So unless we're doing a medical story, he's hard to work with."
