DS9 DVDs Set For Release Next Year?

Paramount is planning to release Star Trek: Deep Space Nine on DVD early next year, according to the latest online reports.

February 25 has been set as the provisional street date for the show's first season, retail sources told The Digital Bits, with CHUD also reporting a February release.

According to the reports, a new season box set will be released every few months, in a similar pattern to the Star Trek: The Next Generation discs. Extra features and packaging should also be in the same vein as the previous box sets. Fans should "reasonably expect" Star Trek: Voyager to get the DVD treatment in 2004, The Digital Bits added.

Star Trek got off to a slow start in the DVD arena with bare-bones releases of the Original Series, which included only two episodes per disc. Star Trek: The Next Generation debuted on DVD earlier this year in box sets containing new featurettes, interviews with cast and crew, and behind-the-scenes looks at the series.

Please note that the above information has not been confirmed by Paramount Pictures, and until then should be treated as you would any other rumour. Additionally, the February release date probably only applies to the Region 1 (North American) set.
