New 'Subspace Echoes' Column

Ariel, Fandom STC's latest columnist, has put up the fifth edition of her weekly 'Subspace Echoes'. This week she looks at Armin Shimmerman (Quark) whose birthday was recently, gives us her thoughts on Andromeda and 'Critical Care' as well as the BBK phenomenon..

A friend sent me the URL to http://www.bringbackkirk.com/ and I howled. I simply couldn`t believe at first that these people are serious. Bring back Kirk?? Why, for goodness sake? Heck, I was cheering when he finally died in Generations. Don`t get me wrong. I like Shatner. He was great as Kirk in TOS and in the first few movies. And I love his "Priceline.com" commercials. I roll laughing at those. Shatner is at his best when spoofing himself. But he has longed outlived his usefulness as a star in a Star Trek movie. It was high time, when Generations came out, to pass on the torch. Now, according to rumors, the torch will be passed on again to the DS9 crew.

So what do these folks want? Well, they claim that after Kirk`s "sloppy death in Generations (when our hero was smashed on the side of a cliff), many fans were angered and it widened the chasm between TOS fans and the newer Trek fans. We are now joining together for our common cause...asking Paramount to bring Captain James T. Kirk back to life in another Star Trek movie." Oh, pulease!! Give me a break!
