Hello World!

In a (Dutch) news report, I just read something which is as shocking as it is sad. A survey of Amsterdam schoolkids revealed that 75% thought England surrendered to Germany in the Second World War, with one third of those even naming a date for when this supposedly happened! In addition, one third of them did not know the significance of the 4th and the 5th of May (Memorial and Liberation Day here in the country), while 60% did not know the occupation of the Netherlands started in 1940. I'm really hoping this was a survey held on primary schools, and not high schools, but even then - surely everyone should know these really basic facts?
