Berman 'Couldn't Be More Impressed' With Trek X

Rick Berman recently took time out from Enterprise and the tenth Star Trek feature film to give his reaction to the work on 'Nemesis'.

"I couldn't be more impressed," he said in an interview with Star Trek Monthly (via Trek Galaxy). "We've been doing an action sequence that takes place on an alien planet. I couldn't be more pleased with our director, Stuart Baird. He's been doing a great job."

Berman spoke about some of the cameos in the film - confirming rumours that Whoopi Goldberg (Guinan) will have a cameo appearance in the film. "John Logan, who wrote the script, very much wanted Kate [Mulgrew] to portray an admiral that we had and Kate was delighted to do it. We have a wedding in the movie and guests at the wedding include Wil Wheaton and Whoopi Goldberg."

The executive also expressed his delight with Enterprise, the newest Star Trek incarnation to hit TV screens. "I'm very surprised. It's a delight," he said. "I kind of felt it would meet with a decent critical response because I felt we did a very good job making it and I think it's a fresh, new television show with a wonderful cast."

"I think we've done a pretty good job of balancing the characters, but there are always some that get a little short shrift and you want to do your best to develop stories for them. We've had some wonderful Hoshi shows. We've put together two great Reed stories. We just finished shooting an episode called 'Dear Doctor', which focuses on Dr Phlox and a female human doctor. So I do think that people won't be grousing about the balance for too long."

One part of the series that has split fan opinion is its opening theme, 'Faith of the Heart.' "I like the song. I take full responsibility for the song. I think the opening title sequence needed to be changed. [...] In our continuing effort to do things differently and make Enterprise a more contemporary show, the thought of doing a song with a vocal was something I thought was really cool."

More from Rick Berman, including his thoughts on the Trek Weakest Link, Enterprise ratings and 'Nemesis' is available in issue 89 of 'Star Trek Monthly,' on sale now in the UK. Alternatively, a full transcript has been provided here at Trek Galaxy.
