It's 'The Pitts' For Waymire

Kellie Waymire (Elizabeth Cutler) is the latest Star Trek alumn to be snapped up in pilot season, with the actress set to swop life in the 22nd century for comic mayhem.

Waymire was today cast in the Fox network's comedy pilot The Pitts, trade paper Variety reported. The series, which stars Dylan Baker, revolves around a consistently unlucky family.

Making her first appearance as Elizabeth Cutler in 'Strange New World,' Waymire went on to steal Dr. Phlox's heart in 'Dear Doctor,' and is expected to return for 'Two Days and Two Nights' later in the season. The actress has also featured as Lanya in Voyager's 'Muse,' in addition to roles in Wolf Lake, C.S.I. and Judging Amy.

At this stage, only a pilot has been ordered, with the Fox network not set to announce its fall lineup until May. However, only a small minority of pilots commissioned each year actually make it to a series.

Other Trek alumni involved in new projects include former Voyager co-producer Bryan Fuller, who is developing Dead Like Me (formerly Dead Girl) for the Showtime network; Jonathan Frakes (Will Riker), currently slated to direct the pilot of UPN's Twilight Zone; and Ron Glass (Loken in Voyager's 'Nightingale'), who has been cast in Buffy creator Joss Whedon's new series Firefly (story).

The original Variety report can be found here.
