John Meredyth Lucas, one of the few people to have contributed to the Trek franchise as a writer, director and producer, passed away earlier this month.

Lucas, 83, died of leukemia in Los Angeles on October 19, StarTrek.com reported. The versatile hyphenate worked on over ten television series in the course of career which spanned more than thirty years.

During his tenure on the Original Series, Lucas wrote episodes such as 'The Changeling,' 'Patterns of Force,' and 'Elaan of Troyius,' the latter of which he both wrote and directed. In addition to serving as a producer during the show's second season, Lucas directed 'The Enterprise Incident' and 'The Ultimate Computer.'

Lucas also worked on other genre series including The Fugitive, The Six Million Dollar Man, and the television adaptations of The Planet of the Apes and Logan's Run. 'Dark City,' 'The Scarlet Hour' and 'Peking Express' were some of his feature film writing credits.
