Strange New Worlds 9 Contest Announced

Pocket Books' ninth Strange New Worlds contest has begun, giving Star Trek fans and amateur writers the opportunity to win cash prizes and publication in a collection of short stories.

Simon Says has published the rules for the latest Strange New Worlds contest, which has launched several writers who are now regulars in Pocket Books' Star Trek line. Three winners will receive bonus advances ranging from $400 to $1000 on top of a per-word rate and royalties from the trade paperback in which all the winners and honorable mention recipients will be published.

Stories may focus on characters from any of the Star Trek series. Entries, which must be typed, should be no more than 7500 words long and must not have been previously published. As always, stories featuring explicit sex or violence, character death or fan fiction cliches will be disqualified. Only amateur writers living in the United States and Canada are eligible.

Winners will be announced in December, with the volume of short stories published during 2006. All stories submitted will become the property of Pocket Books and Paramount Pictures, whether or not they are selected as winners.

Last year's contest volume, Strange New Worlds 8, will be released next month. It can be pre-ordered now from Amazon.com.
