Ewoks Trump Trek and More April Fools News

In honour of April Fool's Day, several Star Trek sites are offering parody and joke news in lieu of their usual fare. Though no one this year is claiming the relaunch of Enterprise or a new Star Trek film is just around the corner, there are promises of new, cutting edge technology on fan sites.

StarTrek.com is promising a relaunch with more fannish graphics and the best geeky names for servers yet. "'Hi-tech,' 'cutting edge,' 'state-of-the-art' — call it what you will — the new STARTREK.COM embraces it all," explains the site, which has a link to its new, unimproved front page look.

TrekCore.com, too, has radically altered its front page, renaming itself Star Wars: EwokCore. "As the opening theme of Enterprise says, 'It's been a long road, getting from there to here...' That sentiment has been true of our journey from TrekPulse to TrekCore over the past six months, and now, it is true once more as we embark upon our latest, and greatest journey yet," notes the new splash page.

A news report at Ars Technica describes a new deal between Paramount and Star Trek, allowing fans to download only the odd-numbered episodes of Star Trek from iTunes. "Starting this morning with its first (technically, the fifth) episode "The Man Trap," available as a free download," Paramount will allegedly make the content available because "Voyager plot lines actually flow better this way."

At our own TrekBBS, several of the forums have been transformed. The Original Series discussion area is now the Kingdom of Kirk, while Trek's most recent series may be discussed in the Enterforaprize forum.

Undoubtedly more jokes will surface as the day progresses, though TV Guide insists that the widespread cancellation rumour concerning UPN's Veronica Mars is just that...a rumour.
