'Nemesis' To Battle 'Rings' At The Box Office?

Forget the Romulans - 'Star Trek: Nemesis' could face staunch opposition from a group of hairy-footed hobbits when it opens later this year.
Paramount Pictures has pushed Trek X's release date back until December 20, according to UpcomingMovies.com. This is only two days after 'The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers' is scheduled to debut in U.S. cinemas.
'Nemesis' was reportedly being primed for a November 22 release, although that date was never officially confirmed by Paramount, with StarTrek.com stating nothing more specific than "later this year."
It is likely the debut has been pushed back to avoid clashing with 'Confessions of a Dangerous Mind,' 'James Bond 20' and the new Hannibal Lecter film 'Red Dragon,' which are all scheduled for release on November 22.
Star Trek films have traditionally premiered at the start of the holiday season. 'Star Trek: Generations' launched on November 17, 1994, while 'Star Trek: First Contact' was released on November 22, 1996. 'Star Trek: Insurrection' debuted slightly later on December 11, 1998.
Please note that this information has not been officially confirmed by Paramount Pictures and until then should be treated as you would any other rumour.
The original report can be found here at Upcoming Movies. Thanks to Dark Horizons and Shaun Turner for this!
