Animated Star Trek: Lower Decks Has First Table Read

1 min read

Star Trek: Lower Decks, the new animated series coming from Mike McMahan (Rick and Morty), has had its first table read, signaling the beginning of pre-production.

A table read is when cast and crew meet to read a script that has been written for an episode, in this case, the first episode. In an animated series, voice work is done first and then the animation is created.

McMahan tweeted a picture of the room in which the read was to take place, saying “ST:LD ep 101 table read today. I got here a little early.”

Star Trek: Lower Decks has an order for two seasons and the show will be a half-hour long. Star Trek: Lower Decks will “follow the support crew serving on one of Starfleet’s least-important ships”

It will still be a few years before Star Trek: Lower Decks makes it on air, but at least Trek fans know that it has begun pre-production.
