1 min read

Ethan Phillips, Star Trek: Voyager‘s Neelix, has joined the cast of HBO‘s “space tourism comedy” Avenue 5.

Avenue 5 is “a space tourism comedy” set forty years in the future when the solar system is everyone’s oyster. Hugh Laurie stars as Ryan Clark, the captain of the space cruise ship Avenue 5.” Joining Laurie is Phillips, Josh Gad, Zach Woods, Nikki Amuka, Rebecca Front, Lenora Crichlow, and Suzy Nakamura.

Armando Iannucci “created the series and will serve as executive producer. Kevin Loader, Simon Blackwell, Tony Roche, and Will Smith will also executive produce. Iannucci also directed the show’s pilot episode.”

Phillips will take on the role of Spike Martin, an “elderly space enthusiast and former astronaut. Spike is a grizzled womanizer and heavy drinker who is also surprisingly good with kids. Spike thinks he should have a higher status due to his achievements as an astronaut, but not many people know who he is. He often boasts of being the first Canadian to land on Mars, which isn’t strictly true.”
